St Albans Cricket Club 3XI v Leverstock Green II on Sat 25 Jun 2005 at 1.30pm
St Albans Cricket Club Lost St Albans lose by 13 runs
Despite the best efforts of Tim Fretter (phone calls) Uzman Zaman (late acquisition of brother - can he play more often please?) and the Murray family (Gordon delivering Stuart as a twelfth man) we still only had nine batsmen (after a dodgy umpires ruling) and were always on the back foot.
On a wet wicket, the bowling was varied, tight overs being rewarded but bad ones going the distance. All performed well (three dropped catches but none were simple) and 175 was chaseable.
Batting was never easy but application by Graham Budd and Jerry Fretter in the middle order set up a decent half-way position. Another few wickets left Nick Kirwan (first league 50) and James Rosson (impressive all-rounder for a 14 year-old) to put together a late stand and get within striking distance.
Unfortunately the batting ran out with Simon Fretter standing on the sidelines, named on teamsheet and waiting to win the game. A great effort all-round by those present but we (the club) need better availability from our numerous members.
