Ware OH I v St Albans Cricket Club 3XI on Sat 24 Jun 2006 at 1.30pm
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 23 runs
On a newly laid pitch where batting needed great care and attention, Sam "lighthouse" Rowlands showed that a term of batting between the ivory towers rather than working has done him the world of good. With the audacity to play (and connect with) the reverse sweep on several occasions and ably supported by captain Fergie, he scored his first fifty for the club and helped the team post a respectable 169. WareOH started like the proverbial scalded cat and at one stage it looked like the target would be reached in very rapid time. However, a batting collapse from 82-2 to 103-9 caused by Luke Mitchell and Uttam Vijender put St Albans in an almost unassailable position. - That was until they eased off and WareOH's last pair showed a bit of backbone missing from their middle order. When the final wicket fell it was more to sighs of relief from the fielding side than jubilation. A very good win.
