St Albans Cricket Club 3XI v Hatfield Crusaders on Sat 08 Jul 2006 at 1.30pm
St Albans Cricket Club Lost some runs but mainly a few cheats
A singularly unpleasant afternoon. How a team can justify that sort of behaviour is beyond belief. A caught behind, heard by seven of the St Albans team but unnoticed by the batsman ("it was windy") or either umpire. A bowled, where the stump was knocked backwards, batsman at first refused to walk and neither umpire - both Hatfield crusaders players - refused to give him out. The pointing towards the dressing room every time they got a wicket. I hope the league take a very dim view of this sort of behaviour and punish them suitably. Of the ruined game?...too many runs for the visitors, lots scored by the cheat after he had refused to walk, too mant dropped catches by St Albans, some decent bowling by the unsportsmanlike visitors, good late display by Chris Ellins with the bat and a nasty taste in the mouth all-round. One or two Crusaders players could leave with their heads up, notably the captain who tried in vain to control his players, but the rest should be ashamed of themselves.
