St Albans Cricket Club Lost 70 runs

Match report Having won the toss and asked Flitwick to bat the signs were not good when the opening ball was despatched to the boundary for four... However, on a very poor wicket, St Albans made an early break through when Evans produced the best ball of his spell, and the hard hitting opener was bowled. Despite Flitwick scoring at over 5 an over, St Albans took regular wickets. Luke Mitchell continued to trouble most of the batsmen, and he was later to be assisted by Nick Kirwan, who had rushed back from Folkstone to play.

At 136-7 St Albans were looking good to peg the score to something reasonable to chase on the wearing wicket. However, it was not to be, as they were not to take another wicket or gain any more points in the match. Ben Middlebrook, making his 3rd XI debut, spun the ball at right angles, which looked good, but was not going to threaten the batsmen.

Flitwick scored in excess of 200, which was far too many.

Ben and Rex opened up, but with the ball doing just about everything, Middlebrook was caught at short-leg, Budd and Devadason soon followed. The wickets continued to tumble and St Albans were effectively out of the game. It was not about gaining extra points, or denying Flitwick the win. After Nick Kirwan had run out Jerry Fretter, the lower order hit some late order runs. However, they were to fall short and gained 2 points from the game.

St Albans slipped down the league as a result of gaining two points from the match. With a number of top teams to play and availability variable, we need to cement a top/middle order position.

The issue of a new ground also needs to be addressed, but as much as Fergie puts in, the life of the wickets has expired and will affect our rating in the facilities marking.
