Match report St.Albans IVs visited Hatfield Crusaders, and chose to bowl first on a surface with some moisture.

James and Hay managed two early wickets and kept the lid on the runs, even as Hatfield clawed their way back. Three wickets in an over to Walker exposed the lower order - but number 8 Sofat played the best hand of the game for 64, his clean hitting of the slow bowlers pushing the score to a very respectable 159. From 67-7, St.Albans fielding let the momentum shift to the opposition.

In reply, Saints lost a couple of early wickets. This brought the experienced pair of Nisar and Furnival together and they set out to rebuild, first, before building the rate. In truth, run-scoring proved difficult with a slow outfield and some decent bowling from the hosts. However, 87-2 presented a launching pad for victory. Instead, Saints stumbled and then fell apart as the required run rate necessitated ever more adventure. Apart from Furnival's 47 and Nissar's 43, no other batsman managed double figures.

So, as the sun suggested summer's belated arrival, St.Albans departed with a sub-par seven bonus points, 33 runs short of victory and second best on the day.
