Match report Distant Hexton hosted St.Albans IIIs, and deservedly took victory over the visitors.

Skipper Eames won the toss, but his options were compromised by the nine men available to him at the time, forcing a decision to bat first.

Early on the wicket offered the bowlers some assistance and the Saints were quickly in trouble. Eames (33) himself looked to turn things around, and started that process by slicing a six over extra cover. Ash Shah joined in, contributing a top score of 42, but the last 4 wickets fell quickly and a tally of 130 looked too few - Hexton's reward for decent bowling and feeling.

In response, although Ash Shah bowled well and Little looked like breaking through, the wickets refused to fall: near misses, run out chances, even a catch on a delivery subsequently ruled as a no ball by the umpire at square leg. The game was ultimately brought to a swift conclusion by the Hexton bats, mindful of the storm showers which had been circling the ground like vultures throughout the afternoon. The final strokes to victory were completed as the rain threatened to interrupt play for the first time.

A match played in a good spirit, but St.Albans would be disappointed not to have applied themselves with the bat. Another 20 runs would have made this a very different affair.
