St Albans Cricket Club 3XI v Holtwhite Trinibis II on Sat 14 Jul 2007 at 1.30pm
St Albans Cricket Club Won

In reality this was as comprehensive a win as any side should expect in Div 7.

St Albans lost the toss and Holtwhites chose to bat on a sublime batting track, prepared very generously at late notice by St Albans School's head groundsmen. Lacking any real conviction Holtwhites opened steadily nudging and noodling without ever really cutting loose. Having lost 3 wickets for 33 in the first 15 overs a determined mid order revivial saw Tripp and Matthers put on 60 runs to make a game of it. Tight bowling by Sam Millicheap and Andy Walker kept them under control but it was the arrival of Dan Lovett into the attack that led to an immediate breakthrough.

Irresitably flighted, big turning spinners thrown down by a "young lad" were simply too tempting for Holtwhites to resist and 3 batters found themselves back in the hutch within very valuable 6 over spell. With the lower order exposed Chris Ellins brought himself back on to pick up the last 2 wickets cheaply. Ellins (3-17), Kirwan (2-32), Walker (1-31) and Lovett (3-29) shared the wickets. On the whole this was a super exhibtion of fielding with 7 catches and a stumping being taken without a single chance being missed.

In reply Andy Kincaid (32) and Mick Malouf (58) crafted a well paced openning partnership of 75 to take the game away from Holtwhites. The rate of scoring continued to climb as first Tom Glinka (33) and Dan lovett (25) came to the wicket to help themselves to the friendly bowling. With 10 runs required to win both batsman managed to slap ugly long hops straight down the throat of estatic fielders, leaving Millicheap and Eames to knock off the winning runs off the next 4 balls.

An 8 wicket win would have fairly reflected the balance of power on show. This was a strong all round team performance, and although Dan Lovett and Mick Malouf grabbed the headlines eveyone contibuted to picking up the 30 points that saw us climb 4 places up the league.
