Match report Three wins in three games? Shurely shome mishtake. The 3s only won two games in the whole of last season. Ah, springtime in Welwyn. A damp mossy pitch, no sawdust, a force seven wind and showers, makes it all worthwhile. The toss won, Welwyn were asked to bat. Senior semi-pro, Richard Parkinson was offered and not surprising took the downhill, with the wind end. Probably fearing a later spell up the hill he all but refused to come off and bowled a full 27 overs finishing with 4-75, a top effort considering the slippery conditions. Nisar Ahmed agreed to bowl up the hill and managed ten tidy overs before all but collapsing with exhaustion. Mark Bashford managed a couple of overs before claiming the wet wicket made it impossible for him to bowl. A likely story, more like the previous day?s lager frenzy at Lords made him too hungover to bowl. Finally Michael Eames, despite finding line and length difficult to perfect due to a lack of shoulder injury, bowled a good ten overs for one wicket.

198 to win looked a tall order at the start and after losing a couple of early wickets the game looked to be slipping away from St Albans. Enter Colin Murphy, complete with dodgy hamstring and runner. Exit Colin Murphy with 54 runs including 4 4s and 4 6s under his belt. His innings probably turned the game in St Alban?s favour. Useful knocks from Steve Ferguson, 23, Bruce Currie, 25 and Michael Eames, 36 hauled the 3s to within a few runs of victory. It took a tense last few overs with Mark Bashford (with his lucky bandsman batting trousers* and a bat juggling display) and Richard Parkinson to see the 3s home and dry.

Man of the match award to Kyle Sharp for getting injured and allowing Colin to play.
