County Hall II v St Albans Cricket Club 3XI on Sat 13 Jul 2002 at tba
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 36 runs
A good win this week over 7th placed County Hall. St Albans lost the toss and was asked to bat on a soft, damp wicket. The slow conditions and tight bowling meant scoring runs was difficult but on the whole, the IIIs upper order were patient and all chipped in. With wickets in hand towards the end of the innings, the middle order were able to play freely and the score quickly progressed to 164, Chris Colgan ending his 2 year run drought with 40 not out.
Not for the first time this season, the bowling was excellent and was complimented with mostly tidy fielding. County Hall made every effort to win the game but wickets fell regularly and County Hall's last pair attempted to block out the final few overs. They almost succeeded but on the 4th ball of the last over, Naveed tried to dig in a short pitched delivery. The ball hit a soft spot, pathetically ballooned into air and hit the now out of position batsman plumb in front of middle stump. County Hall's player/umpire may have thought twice about giving his skipper out but made a rare but commendable decision and raised his finger.
