St Albans Cricket Club Won St Albans win by 8 wickets

Match report The last warm up match of the year for the first team proved to be a fairly comfortable win, thanks to some to some tight bowling and some excellent batting by Iain Curtis and Ricky Gill. The first team have now won all of their pre season friendlies and seem well placed to attack the league season.

Having won the toss St Albans captain Nick Gilbert elected to field first. With the wicket a little damp it looked like there might be something in it for the bowlers. Simon White opening bowled tightly, with only one run being hit off his 4 overs, this was continued by Jaffer Chaudhry who bowled a tidy spell with no reward. at the other end Pete Crews continued his good form with the bat last week, by taking 2 early wickets this week. Indian Gym never really got on top of the bowling, with Jamie Shaw tying them down in the middle of their innings, and Amit Dattani coming on to bowl well at the death when they were chasing runs. Pete Crews finished with the best figures of 4-45.

When it came to batting St Albans also proved to be well up to the task, Matt Howeson fell early chopping the ball on to his stumps for 3, after this Ricky Gill and Iain Curtis showed everyone exactly how it should be done. Building slowly on a wicket which never saw the ball coming on to the bat too well, when they were settled they both played the ball around confidently and finished with excellent 50s. Iain Curtis might have considered himself unlucky to be given LBW for 64, but at least this gave the captain the chance to get his eye in before next weeks league game. Ricky Gill finished on 64 not out, his maiden 50 for the club, while Nick Gilbert picked up 13 not out at the end.

A good win for St Albans, lets hope it's the start of another fruitful season.
