St Albans Cricket Club U10's v Berkhamsted on Wed 27 Jun 2001 at 18:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won 29 runs
A sunny summer evening, a team from Berkhamsted who are flying high and an apprehensive S.A.C.C. U10 side awaiting their Goliath!! However the guys, as per last week, forgot to follow the script!! A superb bowling and fielding performance restricted Berkhamsted to only 239 for 4. St Albans U10's had kept things very tight until the last two overs where they stepped up 3 gears...... 1st ....a smart catch behind the stumps from Miles Triniman off the bowling of Jamie Turner, 2nd ... a superb stop, pick up and direct hit on the stumps from debutant, James Rosson for a run out and third a tumbling catch at square leg by Ethan Fogarty off the bowling of Stephen Young. The earlier wicket had fallen to a superb delivery from James, hitting the batsman's middle stump.
With the job half done, and against some good bowling, Alistair West opened the batting with Miles (0), with a solid partnership (24, losing the only two wickets to fall), Alistair scoring the highest so far this season with 16 not out. Ethan (6) and Stephen (3) followed up with a parternship of 15. It was then that Berkhamsted brought on some even better bowlers.......it was a delight to see the guts and determination with which, in particular, both William Carmen and Jonathon Bennett protected their wickets (as advised in no uncertain terms by their teammates!!!!!). During a torrid 4 overs of accurate bowling, no runs were scored, but, vitally, no wickets were lost. This was then followed by a similar scenario for Jamie Turner and James Rosson who shared a partnership of 13 during the last 4 overs without any coming from the bat. The last 4 batsmen - William, Jonathon, Jamie and James defended excellently against some good bowling ensuring victory against a team I am told had not previously been beaten. Congratulations to all.. See you Friday... Duncan
