Match report Having had scheduled league opponents Met Police Bushey concede, a friendly fixture was arranged against an Old Albanian 4th XI as a substitute for a bunch of cricketers keen to get some game time.

The experienced opening pair of James and Nisar was sent out to open against a fresh faced bowling attack. James went soon, but Nisar (22) and Kanchwala (31) built a partnership of sorts - it lacked much in the way of partnership when it came to running between wickets - to lift the score to 67. 4 wickets then fell in the space of 11 runs; 78-5 in the 25th over of a 40 overs a side match. Saunders and Walker recovered things somewhat, but the last four wickets subsided quickly as the innings drew to a close in the final over. Walker's somewhat flighty 37 was top score in a total of 132 - only four getting to double figures against a varied and mostly young bowling attack who deserve credit for persistence.

Skipper Webber felt that 132 was defendable, though it looked a little under par. Joe Button and Alfie Tinkler both offered steady opening spells, with Button nabbing two wickets to add to his season's tally. However, wickets did not come as easily as wanted, and when OA's Zulfi (70 not out) started opening up with some powerful shots, heads dropped. Through this onslaught, Sam Baksa bowled an accurate spell to be the pick of the Saints bowlers on the day. The match quickly reached a conclusion in just the 23rd over of the OA innings after a succession of boundaries to cow corner, with Saints soundly beaten by 7 wickets.

Analysing the match later, the skipper expressed his dismay at the poor standard of fielding, with chances missed and some shabby misfielding. It was also true that Saints didn't adjust to the slow but true astro turf surface as well as the home side. With a return to league games next week, perhaps it was useful to have this poor performance out of the way in a friendly encounter.
