St Albans Cricket Club Won by 35 runs

Match report Having won the toss St Albans elected to bat in gloomy conditions confident that we had enough firepower to post a decent score . After an early scare which saw us lose our two openers cheaply, Ashish Dean and Ben Hicks came to the crease at 3 and 4 respectively to build a solid partnership and give us a solid foundation to build on. Dean eventually departed for 42 while Hicks was joined by Dave Ashton who looked solid until he was caught playing an expansive shot. Enter Harvey Scott who with Hicks set about the opposition bowling with relish and through aggressive strokeplay and excellent running between the wickets sped the run rate up in a partnership of well over one hundred. After 45 overs both players were unbeaten , Hicks on an excellent 81 and Scott on 72 , the latter's a truly ferocious innings. 226 the eventual total then as the opposition got set for the chase. Ashish Dean and Clouting opened with the new ball and accounted for one opener each in their tight spells and when Harvey Scott and Amit Rajani took over the run rate was dropping like a stone. Rajani's skilful medium pace was particularly hard to get away and he finished with miserly figures of 10-1-29-0. Dave Ashton introduced some spin into attack, picking up a couple of wickets and with Stuart Murray's leggies frustrating the batsmen further Rehane Al-Huq came in at the death to bowl and superb 5 over spell that saw him pick up 2 wickets including the last remaining recognised batsman to seal the win by 35 runs. A fantastic team performance with both bat and ball . Special mention to Ben Hicks for his splendid innings and also his brilliant performance behind the stumps which included one of the catches of the season .
