Knebworth Park 1st XI v St Albans Cricket Club 1XI on Sat 02 May 2015 at 1pm
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets

Match report A great start to the season for St Albans, with a comprehensive victory over opposition from a higher league. A side comprising of mix of players likely to play in the 1XI and 2XI this year took on a Knebworth Park 1XI, at Knebworth, with a similar mix of players.

New St Albans 1XI skipper Matt Howeson, won the toss and elected to bowl first in the friendly fixture to be played over 45 overs.

Taking the new ball, Charlie Smith and Uttam Vijender both bowled decent opening spells keeping the Knebworth Park opening pair restricted. Ashiq Shah returning to the club after a spell with Rickmansworth, replaced Charlie and took the first wicket. A short ball not bouncing as much as expected, taking the top of middle stump, as the Knebworth park player attempted to place the ball on the 2nd team ground. This brought in Knebworth's overseas who provided the mainstay of their innings with a well constructed 98 not out. St Albans bowled well throughout the innings, with notable spells from Ben Ramsay who found good consistency with his left arm spin, and an excellent spell from Alfie Button. Alfie was the pick of the St Albans bowlers, bowling with great control, and finding movement from a benign pitch, whilst having little luck and figures that didn't do justice. Knebworth finished their innings on 200 for 4, after the completion of their 45 overs.

St Albans opened the innings with Sam Kindlen, one of 3 young Australian player coaches joining the club this year, and Matt Howeson. Unfortunately Sam's debut lasted only 8 balls as he was undone by a delivery from ex St Albans player Sayf-Ali Khan that seamed into him, and through his defense to bowl him. The dismissal bought Aaron Jones to Join Matt Howeson, the pair putting together a fantastic 199 run partnership, to secure a 9 wicket victory. Aaron finishing with his first century for St Albans, securing his hundred with a pulled 6 over mid wicket. Matt remained 87 not out, and a great winning start to the season for St Albans was achieved. Knebworth park will be dissappointed with their fielding display, had they taken their chances the result would not have been so easily obtained. The only downside being Adam Hounslow, and Michael Goodfellow, had no opportunity to bat in advance of the league season, the latter suffering a nasty case of pad rash that may put his appearance next week in doubt.

St Albans look forward to commencing the league season next week, with the 1s away at Northchurch, and the 2s entertaining Dunstable 2s at Clarence park on the newly re-laid wicket.
