Match report Consecutive defeats for St Albans narrowed the gap at the top of Division 2B to 17 points with 7 matches remaining.

Deciding to field, St Albans failed to take early wickets bar Dan Rosson bowling Halley for 10. Pitcher, with 62, and Jones, with 36, put on 94 before 3 quick wickets slowed the visitors progress. Gandy counter-attacked, scoring a 62-ball 67. Max Capaldi was harder to score against, taking 3 for 41 from his 14 overs. Jacob Winfield picked up 2 wickets in his last over, including that of Gandy, to set a score of 219 for 7.

Saints started in good fashion, with 75 from the opening 15 overs. With the score at 97, the tiring James Rosson was caught for 37 and thereafter the innings struggled to gain any momentum as the required rate grew. Adam Hounslow reached his first 50 of the season, from 71 balls. Partners came and went in quick succession. Ebrahim picked up 4 for 59 with Khan taking an economical 2 for 42. Gandy mopped up the tail, with 4 wickets in 9 balls, including that of Hounslow for a First XI best of 87 from 127 balls.

A disappointing defeat from a good position. Thus Saturday, St Albans travel to Hemel Hempstead to play the hosts Second XI.
