Match report

A bowling spell of 5 wickets for 11 runs from skipper Andy Saunders wasn’t enough to save the 4XI as they slumped to their 4th defeat in a row.

Winning the toss and opting to bowl, Saints opening bowler Moksudul Islam dismissed Berkhamstead’s two opening batsmen in quick succession including taking a wicket with the first ball of the game. He and Jon Little did well restricting the batsmen to bits and pieces but gradually Berko came into the game and a decent partnership between the youngster Crispin and the veteran Putman saw them establishing the upper hand. Coming on to bowl Saunders made an impact and as previously mentioned took 5 wickets in a 5 over spell, which saw the opposition restricted to a score of 134 in 33 overs.

And so to the batting …… sigh .

Suffice to say it wasn’t good enough – Nick Ralfe top scored with 20 with Kevin Ralfe and Moksudul Islam notching 18 apiece but the less said about the rest of the batting (apart from a brisk cameo by the not out Adam Coulson) the better.

106 all out and a 28 run loss is simply not good enough against unthreatening bowling in a winnable game and at this rate the 4XI not only need to find some runs from somewhere but need to adopt a winning mentality.
