Scorecard

Abbots Langley v St Albans Cricket Club U19 T20 on Thu 27 Jul 2017 at 18:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 5 wkts

Match report Starting off on a Thursday night in Abbots Langely, St Albans turned up to the ground with 10 players, no scorer and with Winfield opting for a warm that would have made his mentor Phil Caley proud. Captain Button won the toss and elected to field first, much to Murphy's disbelief, with opening bowlers Dempsey and Adshead bowling good lines and lengths but with no reward. Button, warned 3 times in the innings once for descent and twice for no balls, got the breakthrough when the batsman went down on 1 knee and snicked off, with the umpire still trying to deny Saints a wicket. Winfield bowled well with some good yorkers, perhaps that warm up should be used not just on Thursdays. Saints
bowled well towards the end and kept the score down despite Rush forgetting
what sport he was playing whilst fielding a ball on the boundary, a mix of
football, cricket and diving before the ball ended up over the rope. Abbots
Langley ended up 125-5.
Saints started the innings off well with Islam and Ralfe however there was some
interesting running between the wickets at times. Going along nicely there was
a moment of confusion when umpire McInnes signalled a no ball only for his
decision to be overturned by a mixture of the oppo and umpire. After a steady
innings Ralfe was run out for 12, but Saints still going well and Islam after an explosive innings was finally caught for a fantastic 46. However, wickets started tumbling thick and fast for Saints and with 34 required off the last 4, the game had swung in Abbots' favour. However, a match winning partnership from
Button and Kendal saved Saints from losing a game they almost threw away.
Button hit the winning runs with 2 balls remaining.
The Batchwood Crusaders strike again now just one win from finals day. Special
mention to Kevin Ralfe for scoring all evening and Ben McInnes (the tactical
mastermind) for his umpiring, returning to a ground he has fond memories of.
Good win and performance.
