Harpenden 2nd XI v St Albans Cricket Club 2XI on Sat 03 May 2008 at 1.30pm
St Albans Cricket Club Won
St Albans won the toss and elected to field on what looked like a decent track if a little soft, but considering the rain that week it could have been a lot worse!
Harpenden stuck to the task well without being stunning and they batted sensibly around M Fordham who accumulated a 101 without ever poking his head above that parapet. They had a few lives along the way and should have been made to work harder for their 210 for 5 declared.
The declaration came as a pleasant surprise and with a long batting line up should never have been the nail biter it ended up as! Rowlands got of to a steady start but we were set back by the loss of both Dorsett and Arafat in the 10th over.
From then on partnerships were hard to come by until the Jimmy Goodwin got to the crease and was involved in the two vital partnerships - with Andy Jones and then O'Toole, the latter partnership getting us to within touching distance of victory. Jimmy was adjudged LBW (one of three from the club house end to suffer that fate in our innings) late on in proceedings, we then made things typically difficult for ourselves before securing a victory of the last ball of the day!
