St Albans Cricket Club 2XI v Kings Langley 1st XI on Sat 24 May 2008 at 1.30pm
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 23 runs
St Albans won the toss and elected to bat.
After a reasonable start at the top of the innings there was a lack of application throughout the order. Sam Rowlands batted well for 36, JD after being felled by a hamstring injury when on 12 or so later returned to the fray to post a useful 25. Michael Goodfellow deserves a special mention for a very good 22 not out, staying calm and batting sensibly whilst all around him were capitulating and posting a vital 23 run partnership for the 10th wicket with Longhurst.
St Albans were aware that 144 was at least 50 short on a reasonable pitch. In reply Kings Langly were slow off the mark but always seemed to have enough overs on their side. At 100 for 3 with overs in hand the task was a big one for St Albans bowlers, Man of the Match Afroz Khan then decimated the Kings batting line up with a career best return of 8 for 21!
Due to poor bar etiquette Afroz will be fined £15 for failure to buy a jug.
All in all another roller-coaster game of cricket in the 2XI, boring it isn't, but another 30 points it is!
