St Albans Cricket Club 2XI v London Colney 1st XI on Sat 16 Aug 2008 at 1.00pm
St Albans Cricket Club Lost
St Albans didn't have the greatest day v's London Colney, we were below par in most aspects of a game for a team fighting to keep themselves in a promotion spot.
On the field we fought hard but lost our grip the game in the last quarter when runs came quickly, and had hoped to keep the total to about 180. At one point 220 + loomed ominously, but Vijender, Sharpe and Khan got amongst the wickets and we we're left facing 199, in reply we lost Cook early on (bwld) and then any sympathy felt for London Colney during their game v's Cavendish and the decisions against them disappeared in light of a very "helpful" decision in their favour. Howeson, set well on 21 and in good form for the 2XI this year, was adjudged LBW.
That said the remaining batsmen should have seen off the total, but some poor shot selection cost St Albans dearly with 5 perishing opting to take the aerial route. As a team hoping to gain promotion we should have seen off an the opposition; who played better cricket as a team, but are not a side we should have lost to this year.
