St Albans Cricket Club Won by 50 runs

Match report Sunday saw the annual Presidents Day match at Clarence Park between a Club XI captained by Mark Telkman and an invitational President’s XI captained by Matt Howeson.

A convincing 50 run win by The Presidents XI , who set a target of 243 in their 40 overs and then bowled out the Club XI for 193, saw Howeson’s team claim the trophy.

Joe Button was man of the match with a 51-ball score of 55 and a 3-18 performance with the ball, but unfortunately he was playing for the Club XI and these heroics were not enough to prevent defeat for his side.

For the President’s XI a quickfire, 3-figure partnership from skipper Matt Howeson (59) and Mike Grossett (60) along with a devastating spell of 3-18 off the opening 6 overs from the veteran Duncan Ferguson to dismiss the top order were the key factors in a dominant performance.

The weather remained kind despite apocalyptic forecasts and a huge thanks goes to Julian Huntly, Helen Green and Barry Atkinson for great food and hospitality and to everyone else who helped make this one of the best President’s Days in recent memory – a fine way to cap off this year’s Festival of Cricket.
