Northwood Town III v St Albans Cricket Club 4XI on Sat 28 Jul 2018 at 1pm
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 2 wkts

Match report Toss lost, St Albans were put into the field, playing on the astro at a blustery Northwood Town.
The perfect start as Jon Little picked up a wicket with the 2nd ball of the match, well caught in the covers by Wilf Rush.
Bilal Siddique kept a tight line at the other end, and runs were difficult to find, with Jon Little finding a number of edges that didn’t quite stick. Northwood Town continued to ride their luck, but a change of bowling brought reward as Sachin Patel bowled very consistently (5-2-9-1) and deserved more wickets. Faz Nisar bowled a great full spell (8-0-26-4) including a double wicket maiden to have Northwood Town in trouble on 53-5 at drinks.
Northwood Town then dug in, and built several effective partnerships and at 110-6 after 30 overs they had a platform to post a decent target. Wilf Rush bowled very tidily, as did Najib Khan. Nadeem Arif (4.3-0-31-3) took a few overs to get into his rhythm, but once he did 2 wickets in 2 balls followed and Northwood Town were all out in the 36th over for 133. A total that felt 30 or so below par.

In response St Albans started the chase carefully, Sachin Patel (16) and Faz Nisar (9) set a good platform and were 22-0 after 8 overs. Faz was the first of 4 LBWs in the innings. Northwood Town’s top 4 bowlers were tight and didn’t give much away and St Albans batsmen struggled to time the ball, and often lost their wickets when trying to push the score along. Luke Cavanna (22) and James Lawrence (12) battled well and put together a useful partnership to get us over the halfway point. St Albans were up on the run rate so overs were not an issue, but were prone to losing wickets at regular intervals. The delayed introduction of a 5th bowler was the chance St Albans needed to close out the game, Jon Little (19*) taking full advantage and hitting 12 off his first over. The skipper judging his appearance at the crease perfectly, to hit the winning runs in the 35th over. St Albans were assisted in their chase by some poor fielding, and Northwood Town’s 32 extras, compared to St Albans’ 8.

A very solid all round team performance with everyone contributing to a comfortable victory.
