Mill Hill Village III v St Albans Cricket Club 4XI on Sat 18 Aug 2018 at 1pm
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Match report A good game is a quick game’ is a perennial cricket cliché, and so it proved on Saturday as the 4XI skittled out Mill Hill Village away from home for just 93, knocking off the runs for the loss of just 2 wickets in 17 overs to be back at Clarence Park by 6pm.

Skipper Andy Saunders, back from two-week absence, surprisingly won the toss and opted to bowl on a green-tinged strip under a grey sky.

Joe Button, a late addition to the team, and Tim Winfield spearheaded the attack for St Albans and were soon zipping the ball past the batsmen, both extracting lavish swing in the humid conditions.

Both bowlers picked up two wickets apiece, nipping out the top four for just 24 runs and both finishing on identically impressive figures of 2-13.

Nadeem Arif and Dave Ashton were next in to bowl and Nadeem picked up the next two wickets with both bowlers creating chances.

While there were a couple of good catches in the game – particularly from Faz Nisar and Dave Ashton - several simple chances were dropped and one particularly was a candidate for the prestigious ‘Dropped Catch of the Year’ trophy at this year’s awards dinner in October!

Andy Saunders bowled tight lines and picked up 2-9 in his economical 7 over spell and Dave Ashton came back on to snare the final wicket with 3 overs to spare.

After a fine tea - only marred by Eammo’s insistence on putting cream on before the jam on the scones - The Nisar brother Manny & Faz opened the batting in the St Albans chase.

With Manny departing for 7 and Faz looking looked good for his 21 before going caught behind young Sachin Patel (32*) came to the crease and batted maturely, never looking in trouble as he patiently waited for the bad ball to punish.

With support from Dave ‘Herbie’ Hancock (28*) whose first 6 scoring shots were boundaries including a huge 6 over deep mid-on this unbeaten partnership saw Saints home with ease

A very good performance which just demonstrates how much of a difference good availability makes to this team who given a consistently settled line up could achieve a very decent league position.
