St Albans Cricket Club Lost 107 runs

Match report In a 45 over a side game. Sawbridgeworth won toss and elected to bat. With Jerry Woodcock and Simon Fretter almost unplayable early on the Stanmore opening pair rode their luck. After the first 10 overs the runs were less than overs bowled. However, with both players now seeing the ball well it took a run out from old boy, Guy Black to get the break through. With Simon White and Jamie Shaw in tandem, the score started to build. Shaw was unlucky not to get an LBW, but as usual, Mr Terry Driver did not give the decision on St Albans favour. Shaw was unlucky not to pick up several wickets, as two or three chances went astray. White took a wicket late on and Woodcock secured a further wicket with a stunning full toss. Tha Stanmore score of 227-4 was a fair total. St Albans opened with Raza and Andrew Jones and with 47 runs from 5 overs it looked as if St Albans would stroll to victory. However, with the medium pace quickly giving way to spin for the remainder of the match wickets began to fall. Raza and Jones both fell to catches and White fell for a 0 when bowled off an inside edge. Sharp hit a full toss to mid wicket and Jeremy Fretter hung around for 6 overs before Terry Driver finally gave an LBW. Guy Black also fell to the tigger of Terry Driver shortly afterwards. Meanwhile Paul Triniman was hitting the ball well and building up his and St Albans score, but fell four runs short of his second 50 of the weekend, when he was stumped. A couple of lusty hits from Simon Fretter and Jerry Woodcock saw the score over the 100 mark. However, with Jamie Shaw unable to bat due to an injury picked up while bowling, the St Albans side fell well short of the target when Jerry Woodcock was last out having miscued another big hit.
