St Albans Cricket Club Won St Albans win by 116 runs
Luke Edwards smashed the St Albans scoring record, as he hit 200, which included a 295 runs opening partnership with Matt Howeson (101). It could have been soo different, as he was dropped on 0, in only the 2nd over. This was one of 8 chances that OA's failed to take.
St Albans posted a massive 350 in 45 overs, which looked to have won the day.
OA's were never going to get anywhere near the target, but were not helped when new boy, Tahir Maqsood took twoo early wickets. Captain Jaffer Chaudrey also chipped in with an LBW.
The run rate required was rising faster than that of the Bank of England interest rate and was quickly in double figures.
The teenage sensation of Tim Fretter (18) and Adam Potter(15) both bowled well. Adam Potter having his first bowl in senior cricket returned with figures of 1-27 from his 5 allowed overs. Tim Fretter bowled fast and wild, but found an edge, which was smartly taken at the wicket by Matt Howeson. In his next over, he bolwed a bouncer, which the OA's bat was late playing and could only top edge to McKinlay.
OA's now need over 17 runs an over. Entry Raza Chaudrey in the bowling attack. His first over went for 20 and his second for 9. In all his 9 overs cost 69 runs. However despite this, the run rate continued to rise, as Monty Hussain and a return of Maqsood kept the runs down. Hussain finshing with 2-44 and Tahir Maqsood 2-26.
In the end St Albans played out the entire 45 overs and were unable to bowl OA's out. However the result was never in doubt and the final summary will show that St Albans won by 116 runs.
However, the day belonged to Luke Edwards for his 200 runs.
