Vauxhall v St Albans Cricket Club Men's Indoor on Mon 02 Oct 2006 at 20:00
St Albans Cricket Club Lost 8 runs

Match report Oh dear. The writing was on the wall that this wasn't going to go well when Berwick turned up early enough to get the gloves on.
Galloway won the toss as expected and elected to field. After carefully placing the field it suddenly dawned on him that he was the only one left to bowl. So he did. At first the batsmen had no answer to the turning ball until they came up with the cunning plan of running out past off stump so that every delivery could be called a legside wide, despite shaving the top of the bails each time. The icing on the cake was when a batsmen decided to shoulder arms to a little rib tickler and was stil awarded the wide - and one for hitting the wall! Obviously the skipper was being held to account by cricket centre staff for overdue subs.... No matter, 3 wickets fell by half time with Rogers inducing some run outs as the batsmen fell over themselves to get up on strike.

On came O'Toole and 'swing king' Howeson to wrap things up. Unfortunately Jones had obviously had a big punt on Vauxhall runs with Sporting Index and willfully refused to run anyone out. The highlight of which was laying down on top of the ball looking like a giraffe giving birth while the two batsmen partook in a slow waltz in the middle. When it was clear that they might be able to make their ground, cue Jones for some overthrows... 115 all out is very gettable, but coulda/shoulda/woulda been 80.

Saints in reply opened with Howeson and Jones. Jones made his customary 25 for 3 (the 3 he runs out each week) Howeson got a first taste of indoors before falling cheaply. Galloway came in next and managed to induce a wide as his batting contribution. Then when backing up, he anticipated that the half tracker from their spinner would be turned round the corner for an easy single and duly set off, but Jones decided whacking it to a fielder was a better idea. The QE2 would have had more chance of getting back. O'Toole next in and looked like steadying the ship and keeping on track, but as Rogers and Berwick found themselves at the crease, the ask was steadily increasing with some reasonably solid bowling all round. Rogers still did his lemming impression with a walking suicide but managed to survive and Berwick showed some early signs of form batting well and running any time it wasn't prohibited. Just for show, Jones returned and hit the last ball for a futile 10. Vauxhall were a good side, but we could have batted/bowled/fielded so much better. OK, it was my fault.
