St Albans Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI v Eastcote on Sun 20 Jun 2010 at 1.30
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 1 wicket

Match report With the Sunday barmy army turning up in their usual fine state from the Saturday night banter, they travelled to Eastcote. The boys were in even better spirits shortly after when they found out they had to field for 45 overs because of the skippers poor tossing skills. The saints bowled good areas for the majoirty of the day and were backed up by some top fielding, espeically from the youth of the club(Goldie and Danny).
Charlie the Kink Smith bowled well 1st up, bowling his 10 overs with figures of 1-32. This was backed up by the Rosson brothers, Jim with figures of 10-0-38-2 and Dan 5-1-24-2. The later picking up their skipper with a well disguised slower ball which took a good catch to complete the wicket by the senior pro, Mr Eames.
Jones,Garg and Rowlands also picked up a wicket apiece, rounding off a good bowling day for the saints, helped by a solid fielding performance and 3 catches(one very amusing) from "Mr Flamstead" Ozzie, helping to restrict Eastcote to 224 for 8 off their 45 overs. With a good wicket and small boundaries saints were pleased with their effforts and confident of chasing it down, this optimised by debutant Goldstone " 5 an over on that, i fancy it!".

Saints reply started badly losing Oswin early, though Furnivall and Goldstone looked about building a good foundation for the rest of the innings. They soon brought up their 50 partnerhip, however Furnivall departed soon after for a well played 26. Alex was joined by Sandi and it didnt take him long before he was hitting the bowling for two convincingly struck 6's. Sandi was eventually out for 27, shortly after young Goldstone bought up a very well constructed 50 with a mix of good running between the wickets and excellent shot placement.

The saints chances took a blow losing three wickets in quick sucesession, leaving Eammo and Rowlands at the crease needing 75 off the last 16 overs. With differing styles, Eammo dispatching some lusty blows over the boundary for a rapid 27 and Rowlands renowned sweep shot brought the saints within 22 of the score with 5 overs remaining. When they both departed it left Garg and Smith 14 to win off 3 overs. Eventually it went down to the last over with Saints needing 4 runs with 2 wickets remaining.
Garg went to the 1st ball trying to win it off one ball, Smith and Rosson managed to get a single a piece of the next two balls leaving the saints needing 2 from 3. The next ball faced by Smith was met by a massive heave to leg which just squirted through the in-field allowing the two to be scored with a late dive from Smith to make his ground. This sparked wild celebration from the St Albans bench from one and all.
A brilliant win for the Saints in the last over meant that quite a few after game lagers were sunk whilst over a celebratory curry. Great effort all round and a very enjoyable day. Special thanks to Barry for umpiring and Peter for coming over to support.
