Match report On a damp grey day, with both teams fielding only 10 players, St Albans 4XI slipped to their second defeat of the season.

Winning the toss and electing to field in expectation of breaks in play for the forecast showers, Chipperfield Clarendon quickly put runs on the board, although this was more a result of the small boundaries than the opening spells of Emmerson and West. With close to 80 on the board without loss, the introduction of Townend and Saunders sparked a collapse with only Leach offering any real resistance. Nevertheless, St Albans had been set a challenging 155 to win.

St Albans innings started positively with a stand of 21 between Maynard (8) and Burman (15) keeping them upwith the required rate of 3 per over. However, the loss of both openers, closely followed by Webber and West, put St Albans on the back foot. A breezy innings from Hollis (35) kept St Albans in the hunt, but then the rain came with a hundred on the board for 6 wickets down. Once the innings resumed, the final 3 wickets tumbled quickly, not helped by the poor light, and St Albans fell well short of the required total.

THE GOOD:

The weather, playing on astro in damp conditions.

THE UGLY:
The number of people who got out to straight balls playing across the line. We know who we are - tut tut!
