Match report Saints Seconds continued their surge up the ladder with a comfortable victory at Clarence Park.

Asked to bat first, the home side lost an early wicket, but progress was carefully managed by Nisar who fought hard, keeping the innings together with a valuable 33. The key partnership of the innings - and indeed the match - saw Rajani and skipper Vijender join forces for 70 before a mixup cut short Rajani's knock. A late flurry of runs added 26 runs for the 8th wicket. Vijender played a captain's knock, dubiously handing over the strike with a ball remaining to leave him a run short of a half century, thus avoiding a round at the bar.

187 on the board represented a challenging score with the new wicket still a touch slow. Newcomer O'Neill - fresh off the plane, having jetted in from Australia early in the week - claimed the first wicket, and showed the value of bowling a full length. At 4-112, the match seemed evenly poised, but the squeeze was already on, with Rajani bowling out his 10 at less than a run an over. With the asking rate climbing, Khan did crucial damage at the other end to finish with 4-22, wrecking any chance of an Ampthill Town win.

Although Saints ran out comfortable winners by 36 runs, skipper Vijender lamented the quality of his side's catching efforts, and will seek an improvement in that crucial area next week. In the mean time, a third win, and second position on the ladder will provide plenty of satisfaction.
