St Albans Cricket Club Lost by 110 runs

Match report The last of the Sunday 2XI friendlies before the real business of the league fixtures begin next weekend was not the ideal preparation as a weakened St Albans side were comprehensively beaten by a strong opposition. Losing the toss St Albans were asked to bowl. Darji CC started quickly , making full use of a short Clarence Park boundary on the York Road side and some wayward (and that's being charitable bowling). Ashish Dean made an early breakthrough getting one of the openers well caught behind by 'keeper Hugo Thomas but from then it was hard going. Although several fine catches were taken ground fielding on the whole was incredibly sloppy , only Faz leading by example with a number of excellent stops. Upwards of 25 runs were gifted by lazy fielding -must do better. Wickets came later in the innings as batsman started to swing from the hip , scalps sprinkled evenly among the bowlers with young George Thomas picking up a couple at the death .

To the batting . Faz and Ashish Dean started well with Faz particularly finding the seam bowling to his liking and racing to 13 before being bowled. He complained of talking behind the wicket during the bowlers delivery stride but had to walk, the opposition captain seemingly unwilling or unable to chastise his players on the matter, which occurred time and time again throughout the innings. Ashish and Jaman put on a decent partnership before first Ashishdeparted on 25 followed soon after by Jaman on 24. credit to the bowlers , some prodigious swing was being found , which batsman found difficult to decipher. Several reached double figures notably Sam Baksa and Hassan Salahin and st Albans limped to 150 off their 40 overs , 32 of those runs coming from extras. At least we batted the overs out.

Not great then but the real work starts next weekend,
