Match report On paper a comfortable 6-wicket win for the First XI although a much larger margin of victory was deserved.

Asking Bishop’s Stortford 2’s, who were promoted alongside St Albans in 2016, to bat lead to an early flurry of runs from the bat of Fernando after being missed by Simon White at slip when on 0. White redeemed himself in the seventh over taking a slip catch for Jacob Winfield’s first wicket of the season. Gillard lead a charmed life, dropped twice and involved in a run out attempt, until giving Michael Grossett his first wicket for the club.

The next hour saw 4 more wickets for 28 as Grosset (2 for 23) White (1 for 24) and Dan Rosson (2 for 10 from 8 overs) contained the middle order. O’Donovan scored 26 before Chanda’s stumping from a Max Capaldi wide saw the innings quickly brought the innings to an end at 136. Capaldi finished with 3 wickets and Winfield 2.

Saints began steadily with Adam Hounslow & White playing sensibly in the opening overs. The first 50 arrived in the thirteenth over before White in particular picked up boundaries with more frequency from a bowling attack posing few threats and fewer chances. A mini-collapse saw three wickets fall in five balls at 115 as both openers departed; White making 61 & Hounslow 35. Although Jamie Regan, a centurion earlier in the day, also departed, Capaldi’s pull for 4 saw the host win by 6 wickets with 21overs to spare.

The early table has Saints seventh after 2 matches with free-scoring Ickleford visiting Clarence Park next Saturday.
