St Albans Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v RNVR on Sun 16 Jul 2017 at 2pm
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 33 runs

Match report A game that saw 433 runs scored in under 80 overs at Clarence Park finished in a satisfying win for St Albans over Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (RNVR) CC.

St Albans lost the toss and were put into bat . Debutante Gyan Rhodes and Aussie ringer Ben McInness opened the innings and from the start set a fast pace with both batsmen punishing any loose stuff. A partnership of 111 ensued , most scored in boundaries, before Rhodes departed for 74, a total that included 16 fours and 1 six with just 4 singles, with his 50 arriving in just 38 balls. Mcinnes supported well with a more considered 32 before eventually being bowled with just two more runs added to the score.

There was no respite for RNVR however as Harry Knill-Jones, fresh from last weekends undefeated ton, scored a classy 63 in partnership with Moksudul Islam whose 38 came in typically quickfire fashion.

Saints two South Africans , Martin and Coetzee, came and went without troubling the scorers too much and Saunders , Salahin and Ashton added little in the final couple of overs with a final total of 233 posted at tea.

A big thanks to Michelle Thomas by the way for another great tea and for giving the bar a good clean during the game!

RNVR started brightly, with St Albans boys Steve Ferguson and Hugo Thomas – playing for the opposition - punishing any loose balls from the opening Saints pair of Hassan Salahin and Moksudul Islam. The two batsmen put on 68 for the first wicket with both bowled in quick succession by Islam and Michael Martin within an over of each other. The next batsman was bowled for a duck by Knill-Jones before Saunders (not that one) came to the crease and put on a worrying partnership of 60 with skipper Bridges before both fell to splendid catches from Islam and Salahin , Islam also taking another fine catch in the deep.

Andy Saunders and Ben McInnes bowled tightly and slowed the run rate with Mcinnes picking up an impressive 3-7, including the final wicket, to continue his noteworthy season with bat and ball …

A really good game and a good win against worthy opponents.
