St Albans Cricket Club 1XI v Bishop's Stortford II on Sat 26 May 2018 at 13:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won By 9 wickets

Match report Captain Capaldi stuck with his winning strategy from last week, winning the toss and electing to field. Winfield did bowl better than last week but again struggled to find his rhythm, perhaps due to his body’s inability to generate any energy for itself before the moon emerges. Bishop’s Stortford’s 2s strong start was abruptly disrupted by the excellent spell of the new and improved Regan, who bowled with a probing accuracy, finishing with figures of 5-1-14-2 (he said he “couldn’t be bothered” to bowl his sixth). It was his spell that began to change the momentum of the innings; Bishop’s Stortford 2s collapsing from 60-2 to 101 all out.
The dependable Foster largely reaped the rewards of this collapse, finishing with figures of 9.3- 3- 5-22 (despite his incapability to bowl anything like his ever-reliable self against the opposition’s only left-hander). Capaldi (7-1-16-2) also took advantage of the bizarrely spin-conducive Clarence Park wicket, including a genuine short leg catch for Armitage off the bat and pad who had been placed there just the ball before. The captain’s Somerset roots perhaps coming to fruition for St Albans’ spin attack, with young O’Toole (and dare I say, Total Cricket Scorer legend Hall) still waiting in the wings.
Inspired by St Albans’ success, Stortford began with spin from both ends. Unlike Foster and Capaldi there was a large quantity of dross, ably put away by the opening partnership of Hounslow and pinch-hitter Winfield. Winfield in particular took a liking to the rarely seen chinaman bowler, who must have had a moral objection to having a fielder at cow corner as Winfield continued to successfully moo the ball in that direction. Winfield’s inability to play seam bowling cost him slightly, but he still made 40 off 46 deliveries in another successful piece of captaincy. Clearly inspired by his partner, Hounslow “nearly let himself go a little bit”, finishing on 44* off 48.
Chasing the total in 17 overs, the game was finished by 4:30, leaving plenty of time for Rosson, Wyldes, Armitage and Howeson to enjoy their TFCs, and for drone enthusiast Hounslow to enjoy the actually quite impressive footage of Clarence Park in the sun. The 1s travel to Holtwhite Trinibis next weekend, hoping to make it three wins on the bounce.
