St Albans Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v Haringey Libraries CC on Sun 08 Sep 2019 at 13.00
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 109 runs

Match report We were blessed with a beautiful autumnal afternoon for the season’s closing match at Clarence Park before we all depart for our 7 month hibernation .

Haringey Libararies , despite their somewhat misleading name, are a strong outfit affiliated with Holtwhites Trinibis CC, who always give us a good game and a well balanced Saints side were steeled for a tough encounter.

Skipper Andy Saunders won the toss and elected to bat on a flat looking strip and sent the club’s second highest run scorer Manny Nisar and St Albans debutante Andy Ward in to open.

Both started well and a combination of good shot selection to punish any loose balls and excellent running between the wickets saw them put on a partnership of 66 before Manny was bowled for a well made 30.

The club's highest run scorer this season Moksy Islam came to the crease and set about the bowling in typical fashion , crashing his way to a quick 17 before being run out , which brought 2XI skipper Amit Rajani and his hangover to the crease . He looked comfortable until an ill-advised call saw him to run out . Charlie Parkinson added a stylish 37 before being caught and Siva Battula and Alisdair Sargen came and went without troubling the scorers.

All the while Andy Ward stood firm , accumulating runs with an array of fine shots before he eventually succumbed for an excellent 72.

Nadeem Arif and Andy Saunders took the score onto a commanding 240 at the end of the 40 overs with a swashbuckling 40 run partnership, albeit comprised of too many ‘3s’ for both veteran players liking.

After an excellent tea Haringey Libraries prepared to chase but were immediately dealt a huge blow when both openers went for ducks in the first two overs from the hostile Saud Fattah and Rajani’s wily left arm in-swingers.

The St Albans bowling performance in general was noteworthy with Fattah and Rajani using the new ball to excellent effect and at one point having the opposition 3-13. Rajani’s final figures of 3-24 from his 8 overs were testament to the power of lager, Jaegermeister and late nights .

The introduction of another left arm/right arm combination in Saunders and Nadeem Arif kept things tight and apart from Hardek who scored an aggressive 55, wickets fell at regular intervals and the game was gone long before some late cameos dragged the game into the 33rd over. A mention in despatches too for youngster Reuben McComb behind the stumps, some very good fielding and for Moksy Islam who came on as the designated death bowler and took 2-4 in his 2 overs at the end.

All agreed it was a fine way to end the season – a lovely day, sporting opposition and a decent victory.
