Match report Saints captain Phil Caley won the toss for the 2nd week running and decided to bat on a hot sunny afternoon. An early confident start by Edbrooke and Howeson was soon followed by a collapse to 60 for 5. At this point Hertfordshire Minor Counties player Simon White and Iain Curtis were bought together at the wicket and dug in. These two took the score upto 120 when White, looking to force the scoring, drove the ball into the hands of mid off. Curtis was left ot try and coax the tail through to a completive score and was last out with the score on 136 in 52 overs.
With few run to play with Saints took the field with the intention of not giving anything away. A superb spell of bowling from White, ably supported by Garofall meant the home creprt their way to wards the target. At one stage the Saints had their opponents 70 for 5. An important stand, instigated by the opposing captain, took the score to within 20 runs, but 2 quick wickets by White, taking his tally to five for the day, meant the home side were not in a comfortable position. Hoever despite turing up the pressure and with overs quickly going by, Saints couldn't prevent West Herts reaching their target in the penultimate over with 7 wickets down. PLayed 2 lost 2 - not an auspicious start to the season, with a home match against the league leaders Langleybury to come next week.
