St Albans Cricket club - Club dinner review

24 Nov 2015

The St Albans Cricket Club Awards took place on Saturday 14th November and the general feeling among the 100 + people attending was that it was great success.

We sent out an online survey after the event and are pleased to say that 96.3% of those responding rated the event ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’.

We handed out 15 club awards and a full list of winners is as follows:

1XI player of the Year - Max Capaldi
2XI player of the Year - Amit Rajani 3XI player of the Year - Tom O’Toole 4XI player of the Year -  Jim Everdell 5XI player of the Year - Naveed Ahmed Sunday 1XI player of the Year - Ben Hicks

In addition, Matt Howeson presented commemorative club caps to the 4 young players – Jacob Winfield, Ben Hicks, Joe Clouting, Alfie Button – who have made debut appearances for the 1XI this season.

A number of the clubs ‘Unsung Heroes’ were also recognized for their sterling work behind the scenes and were presented with bottles of champagne. These were:

Barry Atkinson (umpiring and teas)

Lex Green (teas)

Hugo Thomas (fixtures)

Terry Dean (pitch preparation)

Joan Smith (President Day)

Christine Black (Presidents Day)

Chris Mountain (1XI scorer)

Our guest speaker on the evening was Jarrod Kimber, the  Australian cricket journalist, podcaster, blogger and co-director of the acclaimed documentary ‘Death of a Gentleman.’ Jarrod  entertained us with stories of his time travelling the world as a professional cricket writer and with the inside scoop on his experiences making his film about corruption and dirty dealings in the global game.

Jarrod also drew the raffle, which raised a fantastic £316 for club funds (thanks for your generosity!), and the winner of the top prize, a luxury weekend break, was Dave Ashton.

The feedback we received from everyone certainly made us feel that the event is worth repeating next year and that it should become a regular part of the St Albans cricket Club calendar. So, with that in mind the venue is already booked for Saturday November 12th 2016 – put it in your diary!

Thanks to everyone who came and supported the event and we look forward to seeing you all next year.
