St Albans Cricket Club Lost by 17 runs

Match report Despite a classy 125 from Colin Murphy the St Albans side fell 17 runs short.
On a very slow and grassy wicket the Harpenden side won the toss and batted.
Some wayward opening bowling saw the Harpenden side off to a solid start. The breakthrough took 12 overs until Tim Fretter found an edge to the keeper (J Fretter).

The score continued to tick over, but it was not until 40 overs did the Harpenden side break loose and accelerated the score to maximum batting points and declare at 211/6 off just 47 overs.

This left 53 over for the St Albans side to hit the target. Hallchurch fell early, as he edged one behind. It was left to Murphy and Tim Fretter to put on 53 runs and again another 50 partnership with Naddem.

St Albans continued to keep up with the scoring rate. Murphy and J Fretter put on 72 and with St Albans on 185/5 with 30 overs left it looked and easy victory.

However when J Fretter was given out LBW to a ball pitching at least 12 inches outside the leg stump the St Albans side collapsed. Zaman fell cheaply and the writing was on the wall when Murphy finally fell for 125 when he was bowled.

The St Albans side still needed just 20 runs from 15 overs. However when Atkinson and then Bhanjee fell the St Albans side had thrown away 30 points.
