Match report St Albans 4XI made a strong start to the season but were unable to seal the win against a below par St Margaretsbury 3XI team.

After winning the toss, St Albans elected to bat first on drying wicket, hoping to get the best of the batting conditions. The openers started brightly reaching 50 in the 17th over, with Toby Crisp's orthodox technique complementing Manny Nisar's more flamboyant style. St Margaretsbury soon switched to their slower bowlers in an attempt to exert some control however the openers pressed on with their partnership passing the 100 mark in the 29th over and were only split up when a dubious single saw Crisp run out for 36. Nisar completed his half century soon after, but departed for 63 as he looked to accelerate the score. Nevertheless, the scoreboard was soon racing along as Abbas Shah delivered a quickfire 50 supported by a fluent 44 from Simon Marriott with St Albans posting an imposing 230-4 from their 47 overs.

St Albans opening bowlers Ash Shah (2-18) and Jon Little (1-9) set the tone for the St Margaretsbury innings with tight opening spells that saw Kitteringham depart for a duck with Gilmore following soon after for 8. The St Margaretsbury batsmen showed little attacking intent as Nick James (1-10) and Jack Ypey (1-16) kept the pressure on and the wickets falling. Marriott's fast flat spin delivered two further wickets for a handful of runs while Shah returned at the end of the innings to claim his second wicket, however, it was too little too late as St Margaretsbury reached 98-7 at the end of their overs to restrict St Albans to a winning draw.
