Match report In a tight conclusion, Abbots beat Saints by a single wicket in a low scoring affair at Gallows Hill Lane.

St.Albans were asked to bat first, by an opposition keen to grab 30 points to keep their narrow promotion hopes alive. As has happened regularly, the IIIs batting never really settled. Ash Shah managed 28 and Manny somehow hit 22 despite looking out of sorts, but aside from this too many batsmen returned to the hutch with the remorseful words "Sorry, skip."

With just 126 on the board, attacking bowling and fielding positions were the only options. Ash Shah bowled an outstanding spell of fast and accurate bowling, knocking over the stumps for the first three wickets. At the other end, Walker kept the runs to a minimum, and Abbots could not build momentum. A crucial 8th wicket partnership between Bishop and Wallis took the chase forward, before Ashton's two wickets brought the match to a climax. Despite Shah's best efforts through a tireless 24 overs, it was not to be for St.Albans, Abbots edging home to their target of 127 in 56 overs, nine wickets down.

Inevitably in a game of such fine margins, debatable decisions were in the spotlight, and caused some misplaced frustration. But otherwise this was an excellent effort with the ball and in the field - perhaps even in defeat, Saints felt the better side on the day. A few extra runs with the bat would have validated this on the scoreboard.
