London Colney v St Albans Cricket Club Men's Indoor on Wed 27 Sep 2006 at 21:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won 1 wicket
Match report
Coley must have known what was in store for him and prudently decided to stay away. With a good strength squad we had the luxury of allowing M Jones to play the cymbals behind the stumps. The skipper put in an inspired performance by calling correctly and deciding to bowl. Rosson and O'Toole bowled a frugal spell after remembering what to do with it. The support bowlers came on and the wickets started to follow, Colney removed for 109 where perhaps 140 would have been par.
Saints in their reply started off a bit shaky. Rosson decided to get himself out while the reporter wasn't watching, then specialist latecomer Berwick in an act of wicketkeeper solidarity decided to make their keeper look good with a simple leg side snaffle - after having the audacity to run a '2' indoors.. Step to the wicket an ever confident Galloway who gave a 4 ball demonstration of what to do indoors before forgetting that he was a couple of pounds out of the handicap and got chinned on the line by the fielding side. Rogers then decided to make things interesting by walking to his doom which left Jones and O'Toole together to face the last 8 overs! Very sportingly, they agreed to swing and miss for a couple of overs to keep the fielders interested before settling down to business chasing a target that was in reach by simply belting the ball continuously into the nearest wall. Of course the showman in Jones had to try and hit a 6 to win which left O'Toole to see us home with the last few runs. Luckily, a season of playing across the line stood him in good stead for the job in hand.
