Hemel Hempstead v St Albans Cricket Club Men's Indoor on Mon 30 Oct 2006 at 20:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won 4 wickets
Match report
After Messers Howeson and Longhurst trod on thier metophorical wickets and failed the selction criteria, the way was finally cleared to operate a meritocracy and pick a decent side.
Reaping the rewards of the St Albans youth policies, Fogarty and Rosson stepped up to the plate and all but dismissed the woeful attempts of Hemel between them. In a sparkling return to tossing form, Galloway did the necessary and inserted the opposition. He also showed what a shrewd skipper he is by electing to field 6 players. The opposing skipper decide that playing 5 players might be a good idea, but we knew better.
1st ball of the match we were denied a very credible appeal for run out, but justice was served immediately afterwards as Rosson found the edge and Fogarty snaffled behind. Jones would be well advised to find out where Fogarty's gloves were purchased, the velvet covering produced much more pleasing resonance than the granite covering preferred by Jones. The remaining bowlers all insisted on getting their £6 worth with a couple of overs each before Galloway finally realised that he had better wrap things up as he probably didn't have another over left in him. These 3 over marathon spells take their toll. Fogarty again did the honours behind the stumps with the stumping/run out to close their innings on a paltry 45.
The script was already written, Galloway saw no need to try and influence the destiny, so Rosson and Fogarty were duly sent out to win the game. Nice steady progress from the duo ensured the game was in the bag at a very early stage. Just enough time for the Hemel bowler to sledge Master Rosson for an injudicious Harrow drive/slog with the myopic comment of "well batted." In time, I am sure an appropriate retort will be forthcoming. For now, Rosson had to make do with spanking the next ball for an "8" in reply. I'm sure I lip-read a "well bowled" from the young maestro.
Just enough time for Jones to make a Cameo appearance at number 3 and play down the Bakerloo to a ball arriving on the Central. A slow low full toss proved bamboozling and the fact that the ball went on to hit the stumps saved the umpire the trouble of raising his finger to the plumb lbw that had also occured within the same delivery. Nasty ball to get first up, Jonesy, unlucky.
