Shaheen v St Albans Cricket Club Men's Indoor on Mon 20 Nov 2006 at 20:00
St Albans Cricket Club Lost 29 runs

Match report With the Ashes on the horizon and the opportunity of taking the top of the table spot by playing bottom of the table, there was a level of expectation. How quickly the level dropped after the first two overs went for 20 runs. Mr D. Spatch and his brother did slow down the run rate however and a change of attack was in order. Not the best move from the skipper and the Kiwi didn’t do much to convince the team that NZ is a cricket playing nation (Rugby International – Eng 20 – NZ 41). The captain bowled himself and contained the batsman to reduce the run rate. An important spell from Simon who bowled well and picked up a couple of wickets.
After recognising a bad second over, the ball was thrown selflessly to Kyle. It proved to be a great call and a good one for the team as Kyle bowled one over of simple line and length killing the runs and picking up a wicket in the process.
It was soon St Albans turn to bat and I use this term very loosely. With less than a hundred to get it was a target which seemed very gettable. I could and should stop there, said Jones to the teenager, but we had to go on. After reasonable bowling from the oppo and to cut a long story short there were two ducks, one a golden and not so much from the others but a solid effort from the captain who delayed the inevitable. I’ve never seen a batsman stand his ground after being clean bowled and probably never will, unless I become a St Albans player, but that prize goes to Mr M.Jones. Leaning against his bat and wondering why? I know you were disappointed about making a hash of your average but when the ball hits the stumps after you swinging and missing that’s out. A very old rule sure but I don’t think technology will replace the blindingly obvious.
Hopefully we all remember how to bat for the last game and wait and see if other results go our way.
