Match report A rather one sided affair saw Saint Albans charge for promotion continue. Nothwood Town, handicapped by late arrivals and a couple of no shows, won the toss and chose to bat.

Determined to go off like a steam train Northwood's hastily assembled opening partnership attempted to slap anything that landed in their half, and with some success. Something like normal service was resumed once both openers had fallen to Hamaad Basir (1-21) and Charles Smith (1-34) but not before some mighty blows had been struck.

Lister and Hills dug in for Northwood and produced some sparkling batting but once the partnership had been broken by Chris Ellins (4-35) wickets began to tumble with regularity. Jamie Fleming (2-36) bowling a superb repetoire of out swingers, in swingers and slow balls helped himself and it wasn't overly surprising that Northwood were knocked over in a little over 30 overs for 139.

In reply Saints took full advantage of the one hour on offer before tea. Openers Andy Kincaid and Mick Malouf slaughtered the Northwood attack; Kincaid hitting 29 off the first five overs before edging one drive too many to first slip.

With Kincaid gone Michael Goodfellow came to the wicket and showed again why he is considered one of the best young guns in town. Together the pair shared a 100 run partnership closing out the match in under 23 overs for the loss of a single wicket.

Special mentions to Andy Walker, Ed Hughes and Sam Millicheap who each played their part but on this occasion neither bowled nor batted, Billy Barnes who yet again enjoyed a faultless display behind the stumps AND a very speacial mention to the four scantily clad twenty somethings that chose to sun bath at one end of the ground, occassionally looking up to admire the young bucks; never has third man been such a popular place to field.

Well done all round, I suspect (and hope) that the 60 point crunch match against Broxbourn next weekend will offer more of a challenge.
