Match report A hot day and a good toss to win.
The openers faced a fiery spell from the Chorleywood's youngsters, but having done all the hard work and taken the bruises they got themselves out with a couple of loose shots. Souvik (72) played some classy shots, and with Abdullah hitting 16 off his first 3 balls, St Albans were set for a big score when 185-5 off 34 overs. However a couple of quick wickets(some stunning catches) and St Albans suddenly found themselves at 192-8. James (11*) and Rupert (18*) made sure we used all the available overs, and reached a defendable score of 222.
St Albans bowled very tightly from the start but Chorleywood's opening pair took a liking to all St Albans variations, putting on 148 for the first wicket. Their opening bat (Sat 1XI player) gave a difficult chance on 10 and went on to score 103*. A couple of quick wickets from the spin attack gave St Albans some hope. Abdullah (46-2), Kevin (44-2), and Faz causing some problems for the batsmen. Great work behind the stumps by Harry who had 2 stumpings.
The opening partnership though had done the damage and Chorleywood cruised to a deserved victory.
On another day our tough chances in the field may have stuck to make it a closer game. An excellent game with everyone contributing well.
