Match report The IIIs travelled to Hexton, looking to right some of the wrongs of the previous week against a team near the top of the ladder.

Under sunny skies, Saints won the toss and took advantage by batting first. Toby Crisp and Manny Nissar made an encouraging start, which quickly built to a 50 stand, before Crisp departed shortly after the first drinks break. Nissar was next to go for a fine 46, at 87-2. Hexton gave their opening bowlers in Laidler and Reed extended spells, Reed particularly laudable with 18 overs straight in the heat. Throughout, they maintained control over the St.Albans middle order, many who made a start but failed to truly capitalise on a low wicket, with Faz Nissar next best on 26.

164 on the board looked a little short of par, and was a disappointment after the promising opening. Would it be enough?

The answer was no. Although each of the bowlers gave it their all, the wickets didn't come, the hosts playing to their home-grown knowledge of the pitch. Ypey briefly brought things to life with 2 wickets, and Button's debut senior spell showed much promise. In the end, Hexton ran out comfortable seven wicket victors after Smith smashed a quick 39.

So, another loss, but the application of batting through 53 overs was a positive. In the field, similar heart may have sustained us through the sapping heat, but it was not to be today.
