Ickleford II v St Albans Cricket Club 3XI on Sat 20 Jul 2013 at 1:00 pm
St Albans Cricket Club Lost by 9 wickets

Match report On a sultry but overcast Saturday, the IIIs suffered something of a meltdown in Ickleford, an embarrassment considering the team that was turned out.

Crisp (28) and Hall made an encouraging start on a ground that quickly suggested runs aplenty - the wicket was true, the outfield fast, and the pavilion boundary invitingly close. But for a team of 10 Englishmen and one Australian, Saints managed to perform uncannily like the XI men of Australia had the day before, down the road at Lord's. Murray, Fleming and Walker briefly suggested more, but a succession of wasteful strokes and a needless run out brought too many innings to a premature end; had umpire reviews been available, Saints might have messed that up too. A total of 127 represented a seriously under par result.

The consequence of this early demise was that Ickleford were able to commence their chase before tea. The opening bats made a comfortable start, despite Warren's best efforts. Tea was enjoyed as a respite from the game's destiny, with the Ashes coverage a welcome diversion to most.

The post tea session saw Ickleford complete their inevitable victory, for the loss of just one wicket, all that eight bowlers could muster between them.

So another one for the IIIs to forget and move on from. There remains a danger that the season might prove truly forgettable, unless a little more application is shown. The next few fixtures are important.
