Match report The 4th XI beat the weather and crushed the opposition in this one-sided affair at Verulam School.

A heavy shower shortly before the scheduled start of play delayed proceedings, but thanks to the deployment of a cover and some diligent clean up work, the match was able to begin with the loss of 18 overs, after Webber won the toss.

James set out to make up for lost time, and the opening partnership had reached 60 in 12 overs when he fell for a well struck 49. A typical St Albans batting lurch followed, as 5 wickets fell for 25.

Then came the crucial stanza of the match, as Parkinson joined Ypey and the two got themselves set and then lifted the run rate to complete an unbroken stand of 88 in the last 12 overs of the innings. Ypey in particular took the initiative, largely playing in the "V" down the ground with some well struck blows to compile a excellent 79no.

An undermanned Rickmansworth - top of the ladder going in to this fixture - now looked even more lacklustre and their batting crumbled in the face of solid, accurate bowling and sharp fielding. Hay managed 3/16, Parkinson 2/4 and Townend a scarcely believable 9 overs, 7 maidens, 3 wickets for 2 runs. Rickmansworth were rolled for 25, just three batsmen troubling the scores - seven ducks.

Saints thus took full points and a winning margin of 148 runs. Well done to all - let's see that form carried forward!
