Match report The IIIs recorded a convincing win over their Division 7 rivals Great Gaddesden on this warm May Saturday.

On a "bat first" wicket, Eames tossed correctly and sent out Rudlin and Ferguson. The sluggish wicket and slow outfield made going slow, but a series of partnerships built around the innings of Rudlin (56) and Rajani (also 56) patiently worked through the conditions. With every batsman doing their bit, and some hustling towards the end, Eames was able to declare the innings closed an over early with a maximum batting points total of 201 on the board.

Great Gaddesden's Teesdale showed positive intent opening up, but succumbed to Hay, well caught by Eames - Crawley followed him in, played the same way, and fell to the same combination to leave the score at 2/56. The match was edging in St.Albans' favour. A couple of overs of fine bowling then saw a further four wickets fall, Hay and Vijender both finding themselves on a hattrick. When Rajani's first delivery elicited an edge from the persistent Cheeseman, to be well caught by Thompson standing up to the stumps, the game was up.

Great Gaddesden finished on 100. Hay's figures of 4/36 from 15 overs showed the value of bowling straight and finding good rhythm, while Vijender cleaned up the bottom half of the opposition with an immaculate 5/22. Again the bowlers were well supported by a stellar effort in the field.

An excellent all round win then; let's see it roll on through 2014.
