Match report Saints returned to winning ways on this visit to Baldock.

Baldock's sloping home ground looked inviting for batsmen, and initially the hosts suggested there would be runs aplenty. It was senior debutant Adshead who made the initial breakthroughs, the first aided by a fine slips catch from O'Toole, in a diligent spell of bowling. O'Toole the bowler played his part too, but it was Rajani who stole the show. But for stubborn opener Rayat's 49 not out, Baldock wilted to Rajani's left armers and he finished with the outstanding return of 7/36.

After flirting with positions in the lower order the previous week, Eames and Ferguson returned to their rightful position as openers. Eames was merciless on anything the failed to hit a length, and by the time he was out for 30, the target of 123 looked comfortably close. Ferguson top-scored with 42, Rajani added 31 not out and Ypey played a six ball cameo to strike 16 runs, including a six for the winning runs.

With a vital victory in the bag, the journey back to St Albans was a happy one, and optimism for a late season recovery regained over a few drinks. Thirty points - it feels good, let there be more of it.
