Match report St. Albans won the toss and elected to bat first against Friends XI on a (finally) sunny day at Clarence Park.

St. Albans openers Mark Telkman and Stuart Murray got off to a solid start, putting on 30 for the first wicket before Murray was out caught behind for 10. Saints number 3, Adam Hounslow, followed soon after LBW for 4 - leaving St. Albans 35-2 in the 13th over. Amit Rajani joined Telkman and together they sought about building a good total for the home side. Both Rajani (86) and Telkman (76) paced their innings well and, with some help from the away sides’ fielders, took Saints to a more than competitive total of 197-5 off 40 overs.

The Friends innings got off to a poor start with Saints opening bowler Luke Cavanna (1-23) picking up a wicket in his first over. The other Friends opener replied well though, using the “4, 6 or out” mantra to good effect and punished anything short of a length to reach his 50 inside the first 8 overs.

The introduction of Mark Telkman (5-39) saw a change in the dynamic of the game and St. Albans picked up wickets at regular intervals to tie up the scoring rate. After Telkman had the Friends opener out LBW for 80, there was little resistance from the rest of the away side. Jack Ypey (2-11) and Craig Reece (2-19) wrapped up the innings inside 31 overs and ensured that St. Albans go into the CV League campaign unbeaten.
